Mental Health Peer Team Training

Mental health peer teams improve workplace mental health outcomes by providing a safe, trusting and knowledgeable space where trained peers support colleagues coping with life challenges and mental health issues. This course provides mental health peers with the knowledge, confidence, interpersonal and communication skills so refer peers to professional resources in response to diverse life and health issues.

Upon completion of this 14-hour course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the role, responsibilities, limits and boundaries of a mental health peer
  • Understand signs, symptoms and impacts of common mental health problems
  • Explore and implement strategies to enhance trust and reduce barriers such as stigma
  • Identify easy-to-access professional resources to support mental health and well-being
  • Discuss and practice communication and problem-solving skills for providing non-clinical assistance to colleagues experiencing distress
  • Learn a process for identifying and responding to high-risk situations
  • Apply skills in scenario-based simulations and receive immediate feedback
  • Cultivate resilience and self-care strategies to promote well-being
